Installation
How to install Throne and get started.
Throne supports Windows, Linux, and macOS. Choose the appropriate installation method for your platform.
Download the binary
Go to download the file for your platform.
Windows
Portable (ZIP)
Extract the ZIP file and run Throne.exe.
Installer (.exe)
Run Throne-x.x.x-universal-installer.exe.
macOS
Extract the ZIP file. Due to Apple's strict security policy, you must remove the quarantine attribute:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Throne.app
Move Throne.app to /Applications before the first launch. The built-in privilege escalation opens Terminal to make the core setuid-root, and that step can fail while the app is still inside ~/Downloads.
Linux
CLI installer (recommended)
The quickest way to install on any distribution. The script downloads the right build for your architecture, installs it to /opt/Throne, and adds a desktop entry:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/throneproj/Throne/dev/script/install_linux.py | sudo python3
It runs as an interactive terminal menu: it shows the latest stable and unstable versions (and your currently installed one, if any), then asks whether you want to Install or Uninstall, and which branch to install. Requires Python 3 and root.
Run the same command again to update to a newer release, or to uninstall. Uninstalling removes /opt/Throne and the desktop entry but leaves your settings in ~/.config/Throne untouched.
Portable (ZIP)
Download the ZIP package:
unzip Throne-x.x.x-linux-*.zip
./Throne
Debian/Ubuntu (.deb)
sudo apt install ./Throne-x.x.x-debian-*.deb
Note: The -system-qt version does not bundle Qt libraries and relies on system-installed ones. Use this version if you encounter theme conflicts or if the standard GUI fails to load.

Troubleshooting
Antivirus Detection
Some antivirus software may flag Throne as malware because its update functionality downloads, removes, and replaces files—similar to ransomware behavior. Additionally, the System DNS feature modifies system DNS settings, which some antivirus applications consider dangerous.
